Textbook:

Required: Chemistry, The Central Science by Brown, LeMay, and Bursten, Pearson/Prentice Hall. 10th edition.

Exams:

There will be four mid-term examinations: Wednesday, February 4; Wednesday, February 25; Wednesday, March 25; and Wednesday, April 22. The final examination will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 12:45 to 2:45 pm in 138 Chemistry in accordance with the guidelines provided by the MSU Registrar's Office. All exams are cumulative. Each student is required to bring a calculator and writing utencil to all examinations. An equation sheet for each exam will be provided by the instructor. If you miss an exam for any reason, talk to your instructor immediately. It is in violation of University policy to provide false information to any agent of the University for your own gain. Make-up exams are not usually given.

Homework:

A set of practice problems will be distributed well in advance of each examination. Each problem will be labelled with a date indicating the lecture material on which the problem is based. Final answers and solutions to all problems will be provided.

Attendance:

Attendance at lectures and recitations is expected. Solutions to selected homework problems will be covered in lecture and recitation sections. In general, students who attend lecture and recitations sessions will be better prepared for the course examinations.

Classroom Behavior:

Mutual respect and civility are expected in the classroom. At no time is it acceptable for a student or instructor to be mimicked, embarrased, intimidated, or mistreated in any way. It is considered rude to talk or read newspapers during lecture or recitation. Students engaging in such activities will be dismissed from the classroom. If you know you must arrive late or leave early from class, please inform your instructor ahead of time.

Academic Honesty:

Students should familiarize themselves with the General Student Regulations in Spartan Life. Any student found cheating will receive a failing grade for the term, and a letter will be sent to the student's academic dean describing the reason for the failure. This letter becomes part of the student's permanent file.

Grade Determination:

The grade breakdown and grading scale will be as follows:
