Filesystems
The 24 disk drives in the Origin 3400 are configured into 4
separate filesystems. Listed below is a brief description of
these filesystems and the disks used to form them.
- /
The / (root) filesystem contains the operating system
and all of the software installed on the machine. It is located
on the 18 GB system disk.
- /clone
The /clone filesystem is used to hold a copy of the root filesystem.
If anything should happen to the system disk, the machine can
simply be booted from /clone, allowing / to be restored from backups.
It is located on a 36 GB fibre channel disk.
- /home/hbar1
/home/hbar1 contains user home directories. It is composed of
two 36 GB fibre channel disks.
- /scratch
The /scratch filesystem is used by the PBS queues for
temporary files. Users may also store temporary files
in their directories on this filesystem. It is striped across
20 18 GB fibre channel disks, so it provides very high throughput
for large files. This filesystem is NOT backed up.
